MISSION LOG: 00.1 "First Inspection
- Part 1"
Lt. Vorun Klemendat strolled quietly through the empty corridors of deck six, studying the various display consoles; some lighted with brightly colored diagrams, others partially lit, awaiting further
programming; still others standing dark till the surging power of
the starship's central computer memory breathed them into life. He smiled to think how much that computer could- would- tell him, soon.
The USS StarQuest. Registry number NCC 71804-A. How typical of those
soft-headed UFED sentimentalists, he thought. They have to name their vessels after one another, like fat metal babies after old,
dead ancestors. They're only machines. Huge, magnificent machines, but really nothing more than so much alloy, wire, and manufactured
energy.
Soon this ship would be formally launched on its first mission,
and Lt. Klemendat would be its Executive Officer, second in
authority only to the captain, and one careful step closer to the
big chair himself.
So much planning, strategizing, maneuvering, for so many years;
patiently, as only a true Zakdorn could. He would win his own command. Then he would show his
world, those UFED fools, and the whole galaxy what his superior intellect could
really do. Then they would show him the respect to which he was entitled. He would make
sure of that.
He sighed with a deep satisfaction, strolling towards the turbolift
and then to deck seven, where he would continue his silent
examination, his quiet preparation for things yet to come.
